Getting The Ball Rolling ...
It's been painfully obvious as of late that interest in MyTopix has dropped to a staggering all time low - and rightfully so, I might add. Over the past few months I've been extremely busy with schooling, a new job, divorce and a few other non-fun related obligations that have drawn me away from my favorite pet project; MyTopix.
In a suprising turn of recent events I have found a window of opportunity that I can't afford to miss. It seems that I'll have MUCH more free time to work on personal endeavors starting NOW and going on well into the next year. This is good news for everybody ( everybody still interested in MyTopix that is. lol ).
Here is the current plan for MyTopix: it's done with and pretty much over on our end. The software isn't as flashy as it once was and even if I work my backdoor off to bring you the next version, it'll still be the same old watered down discussion medium that everybody has been used to for the past few years.
What we will be doing over the coarse of the next few weeks is restart the bug testing phase of the currently downloadable build. The reason behind this is simple; we lost all our data a while back and don't have the topics necessary to patch the current version up. Our goal is to finalize this version, 1.2.3, with one massive patch and then re-release it under a new license. No new features, no removed features.
Originally, we were planning on going completely open source using a GPL license, but I think the final decision is to go with this Creative Commons license. We decided to go this route simply because we know how much you enjoy the current build AND because we also know that some people may not like the direction we plan on taking with the new software. Making MyTopix CC licensed will allow YOU to pick up where we left off.
To summarize:
- Retest current build
- Release new patch & new, final, build
- Release under CC License
- Redevelop new discussion software
The new software is NOT another version of MyTopix. It is a completely new piece of discussion software, therefore it will be released under a different name ( still under consideration ).
Well, that pretty much sums this all up. Love it or hate it, this is where we're going.
The sooner we start bug testing, the sooner you'll get your finalized version and new license to do with as YOU please.
