MyTopix Installer Updated
Apparently there have been a small handful of instances where users were unable to install MyTopix because of database and / or file system errors. The current installer didn't really give much insight into what was going on so I went ahead and made a few small updates to the system. Since these are all installer-related issues, I just plan on updating the main build. This doesn't even warrant an incremental version change since everything else in the system should work just fine if you've had a successful install.

Not the whole board, sillies! Just the main announcements one. I plan on transferring all announcements within this forum to the main site's new blog. There is an RSS feed for both articles and comments.
I may also close off and archive the corresponding announcement discussion forum as it doesn't make much sense to hold discussions in 2 different places. Besides, this will also give guests the opportunity to provide feedback without having to register at the boards.
Full Installer Completed
It's official! MyTopix 1.3.0 is now released for open testing!
I am happy to announce that the new full installer for the latest build of MyTopix has just been completed. We are currently doing a short test run to make sure there are no obvious issues with the new package. Once completed we will release it to the public and the rest will be history! Thank you all so much for your continued patience. Although it took a good while longer than I will ever allow again, I can finally say that it's DONE!
Patch Time!!!
Well you have all been waiting for this for a good while! All reported issues with the skin and software have been resolved. I'll be working on the patch for the rest of the night and tomorrow. This one will be a little different than the previous ones as it will be a 2-step process. First you will have to apply the patch itself, which is just a file-rewrite process. Second, you will have to install the skin on top of it.
Concerning this skin
I just thought I should let everybody here know that even though this software is now being released under an LGPL license, the new skin is not. I know some of you will complain about this move, but I've discussed it with our designer and I agree that this skin should remain closed-source and exclusive only to MyTopix and all other Jaia-related projects both current and in the future and is NOT to be redistributed with other software.
Skin Delivered
I got into work this morning, checked my gmail account and what did I see? Why, our new skin of course! Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with it, but I have found quite a few little design flaws. What I need for everybody to do is go to their personal control panel and change their default skin to the new one - it's the only other one on the list - and start posting skin issues.
All issues must be posted within our Google Code issue tracking system or they will be ignored
Different Approach
While we're testing out this patch it's clear that it still has a few issues that need fixing. Typically, I'd just update the current patch and tell you all to redownload and overwrite all your files.
This is probably mostly due to laziness on my part because I don't feel like tracking down each file that has even the slightest change in it. I can understand how this might frustrate a lot of people.
Patch Deployed
Yep, the patch you've all been waiting for is finally here for public testing. Just follow the instructions included within the patch topic and you all should be good to go. The installer will be updated this week and the main build should be released, hopefully, before the weekend.
It's a little late right now and I have to go to work in a few hours, but I just wanted to thank you all for your continued patience with this project! I hope you enjoy this patch and much as I enjoyed releasing it.
Version 1.3.0 Locked
That's right, all future issues and / or enhancements from this point on will be addressed in next month's patch ( if there is a need for one ). I will fix only issues that are covered in today's patch. Next on the list is updating the installer and then the main build for public download.
The Plan
Alright, I'm nearing the cutoff point to seal the next version. This means that anyone who finds new issues with the software that have not yet been addressed better get to posting them in our Google issue tracker before tonight.
As stands right now, here are my plans for the next few days...
Bug Reports
Since we are going to be using Google Code to handle this projects repository and bug tracking for now please report all bugs and issues here.
This will make it easier for us to track bugs and get them resolved in a timely manner.
Mytopix On Google Code
Yep, we decided to use the free Subversion / bug tracking service that Google offers to keep a public repository of MyTopix updates. This will let anyone and everyone see source code updates as they happen:
http://code.google.com/p/mytopix/
We're planning on moving all of our current issues to this public database and track everything from there. Chances are, the bug testing forum will, sooner or later, just redirect to our Google code repository.
Shouts out go to Gene for setting it up for us!
Is Now A Good Time?
Well it's been a little over a week or so and I thought I should ask if now's the time to go ahead and start with the maintenance release. Mind you, even though we're moving to a new license, we're still going to be supporting the project and will be releasing updates and such on a regular basis. As for things like new major releases, I'm still discussing this with my partner in crime, Gene, if he would like to become the sole developer of Jaia's MyTopix project.
We'll see what happens, but in the mean time, is it safe to go ahead and start on the update?
Getting The Ball Rolling ...
It's been painfully obvious as of late that interest in MyTopix has dropped to a staggering all time low - and rightfully so, I might add. Over the past few months I've been extremely busy with schooling, a new job, divorce and a few other non-fun related obligations that have drawn me away from my favorite pet project; MyTopix.
Public Test ( Xsl Templates )
Hello everybody! In order to ensure the highest possible compatibility with most current server configurations, we've decided that it's necessary to facilitate testing phases for various major components for MyTopix.
This week's test case will involve MyTopix's new Xml / Xsl template-based skinning system. This is a relatively new technology in terms of popularity and availability in different software packages, so it's our goal to make sure this system works on most servers.
